Are non – fossil renewable energies that can be used to produce heat, electricity and fuels. Cogeneration techniques allow as well heat and electricity production.
Main renewable energies are:
Theoretically, these energy supplies are inexhaustible as they are renewable. However, their potential is different depending on region, climate etc. They have very little negative impact on the environment mainly because their use does not result in emission of greenhouse gas. Therefore, they are one of the main factors of fight against the climate change. This can be translated by externalities that take into account the environmental benefits of renewable energy.
Today they are not fully competitive, except for geothermal energy, low and high enthalpy, hydropower and wood energy. Their development requires public support which can be either a special pricing for a produced kWh or investment.
